Poltergeist is one of my favorite scary movies, but it may be a bit too scary for the little ones. Unless you want to have your kids sleeping with you for the next few months, pick a movie that celebrates Halloween without scaring your kids too death.

This movie recreates the popular cartoon series “Casper- The Friendly Ghost” and adds some additional Halloween elements. The special effects are pretty good, and it’s more cute than spooky.
Adams Family (1991)
This movie is also a spin-off from a classic tv series by the same name. The Adams Family movie was released in the ’90s but remains timeless. It stars Christina Ricci, remember her, and a host of other actors that bring this famous family to life. Again cute, but not spooky.
Nightmare Before Christmas (2009)
We are not confused about the holiday; The Nightmare Before Christmas is actually an excellent animated film that follows the King of Halloween as he tries to stage his first Christmas celebration.
What happens when you move into a new home filled with ghosts? You call for Beetlejuice, an undead bioexorcist. Scary concept, but the movie is actually very funny and heart-warming.
Scooby Doo (2009-2014)
The Scooby Doo empire has released several films in the last few years, any of them are perfect for Halloween.
Gremlins are like the original Furbies. Lucky for us, Furbies don’t create havoc and multiply like nobody’s business.
Remember The Goonies? This classic action flick follows teens, living in the “Goon Dock” section of Astoria, Oregon, who go on an adventure to save their home from demolition by unearthing the treasure of One-Eyed Willie.
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
An oldie, but goodie. No one brings in Halloween like Charlie Brown. Kids of all ages will love this one.
The Worst Witch (1986)
Not everyone is a master of witchery. Mildred Hubble is a young witch that struggles with her powers, and is the worst witch in her class. The kids will love cheering for Mildred as she overcomes adversity in this film.
Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005)
This is the perfect movie for the tiny tots. Everyone in the Hundred Acre Woods is excited for Halloween, but Pooh has eaten all the candy. What will they do?!
