If Starbucks is your daily vice, your in good company. Millions of people spend an uncalculated amount of their monthly income on these specialty coffee drinks. It’s an expensive habit, but it doesn’t have to break you. There are sure-fire, but lesser-known ways for the common man, or woman, to save money at Starbucks.
1. Order a short instead of tall cappuccino
It’s “shorter” than a “tall,” and less expensive but packs just the same amount of espresso as a tall.
2. Order in bulk.
If you plan on chillin’ at Starbucks for a while, or are visiting the space with friends, order Coffee Press which serves a few coffee drinks and is cheaper than ordering them separately.
3. Take advantage of refills.
Starbucks sells refills for only $0.50. There are of course a couple rules to this money saving opportunity, your refill must be requested in the same visit, you must use the same cup, and the refill must either be hot coffee or tea, or iced coffee or tea. No double-shot, tirple-this or that.
4. It’s my birthday!
Register with Starbuck’s and receive a free gift card on your birthday. You are allowed one free drink within 30 days of your birth date.
5. Request no water in your tea.
Tea is watered down. To get more tea for your buck request no water.
6. Bring in your own reusable glass or mug.
Starbucks will discount your purchase $0.10 if you bring your own container. Doesn’t sound like much but it can add up over time, and it’s better for the environment.
7. Don’t buy Starbuck’s bottled-water.
The tap water at Starbuck’s is probably cleaner than the bottled since it’s triple-filtered. Just request a free cup of water if you need hydration.
8. Get a Starbuck’s card
If you are a frequent Starbuck’s customer, you should definitely have a Starbuck’s card. It’s free and entitles you to lots of rewards, discounts and promotions. Receive a free drink or food item after every 12 uses.
9. Give a dog a…
Freebie cup of whip cream. That’s right, you can order a free, sweet cup of gooey sugar for your dog. Not sure why you would want to do that, but it’s an option.
10. Slick tea trick.
If you are a tea drinker like myself, order the Chai Tea not the Chai Tea Latte. Than ask them to add hot milk for $0.60. Surprisingly this little ordering trick will save you money.
