As a busy mom, I’m always looking for a way to create healthy dishes for my family with limited time (and energy). I came across an advertisement for this website on Facebook, so I decided to give it a try.
Plated.com offers 7 chef-designed recipes each week. You can order whichever meals you want, and the ingredients arrive fresh at your door. The package also comes with the actual recipe instructions so you can prepare the meal.
I tried the Spicy Coconut Rice Noodles with Kale and Basil. It was absolutely delicious and will make me a forever fan of Plated.com’s Chef selections.
At first, I thought this idea seemed a little counter-intuitive. Why would I pay you to send me ingredients? I could just go to the store and get them myself. There are some advantages to allowing Plated to send them: it’s incredibly convenient, they’re pre-portioned to cut back on waste, it comes in a bio-degradable box which is environmentally-friendly and keeps the food cool, and all ingredients are fresh and sourced from a specialized network of local growers and distributors.
The cost may be a bit too expensive for some, but members will pay about $12 per plate. This is not an amount I can spend every meal, but I can spend this a couple times a week. Membership runs from $8 or $10 per month, depending upon whether you pay annually or monthly.
You will need to have some ingredients (such as kosher salt or black pepper) and cooking utensils to prepare each meal. Each order card (see pic above) tells you exactly what you will need that Plated doesn’t provide you.
One disadvantage is they actually sell out of meals, so if you are really itching to try one of their selections– order fast!
